Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)

Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification requires an associate’s degree from an accredited Health Information Technology program and passing the RHIT certification exam. RHIT professionals serve the vital role of ensuring accuracy, completeness, and privacy of medical records. Increased use of electronic healthcare records also enables them to compile and analyze patient data to discover ways of improving patient care or implementing cost efficiencies in the processes. Some RHITs work as cancer registrars compiling and maintaining data on cancer patients. Others specialize in coding diagnoses and procedures.

Holding RHIT certification will help you qualify for UC’s Health Information Management bachelor’s degree program, an important step in becoming a RHIA and furthering your career.

If you are interested in becoming a RHIT, a list of approved programs can be found at www.cahiim.org/accredpgms.asp. I would like to know more about your online RHIT program. I am CCS and CCS-P and ICD 10 CM/PCS trainer but do not have a degree.

Hello Michelea, thank you for your interest in our program. I’m very sorry, but this is a “+2 progression program” in that we require our applicants to already have their AS/HIM from a CAHIIM accredited program. Our program is designed to help prepare RHITs for the RHIA certification exam. I would be happy to discuss the program further if you wish, however, please feel free to contact me at 800-499-6813 x 464 with any additional questions.

I am an RN (Associate Applied Science@Raymond Walters 1993) and a CDIS (Clinical Documentation Specialist) for 5 years. I am currently returning to Clermont to get my Coding Certification and I am thinking of then getting my RHIA. Can you send me an application for the RHIA program and maybe an Evaluation of possible credits I might have from my previous programs, and how they would transfer for your RHIA program. Thank you.

Sorry – what I really want is a Bachelor’s degree program

      Hello Karen,
Thank you for your interest in our program. I’m afraid that we are a “plus two” program meaning that in order to apply you need your AS degree in HIT or HIT from a CAHIIM accredited institution. We would accept this entire degree for transfer and bring you in at the junior lever to finish your BS with us. I would be happy to discuss your options if you would like to call me 800-499-6813 x 464.
