BECOMING A BEARCAT
Welcome Bearcat-Bound Professionals!
The University of Cincinnati's official mascot is a Bearcat, which may lend the question, "A what?" A better question might be, "What is a Bearcat and how did the university end up with it as its mascot?"
Although the origin of the name dates back to the Chinese word for ‘Giant Panda,' our Bearcat looks nothing like one. The Stutz Bearcat was a legendary Indy 500 race car back in 1911. No, our mascot is not named after the car either.
