2/26/2008

Ravenna, Ohio (Feb. 26, 2008) - University of Cincinnati graduate Bunnie Cobb was recently named the director of Health Information Management at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio. Cobb earned her Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management in 2007. She has worked at RMH since 2001 and brings 16 years of health information management experience to the position.

"This is an exciting time to be in the health information management profession," Cobb said. "What an opportunity it is to be on the cusp of new technology, such as voice recognition, electronic signature and electronic medical records."

RMH is heading in the direction of electronic medical records, where a patient's chart would be available via computer to healthcare providers.

"We have to meet patient's expectations," Cobb said. "Electronic medical records will aid in patient care at the bedside, help empower patients, and enable us to better track disease. It's very exciting to build this from the ground up."

Cobb assumes her duties March 1 and will coordinate the activities of personnel engaged in analyzing medical records to ensure that the records are complete and accurate according to laws and regulations. The department assigns diagnosis and procedure codes for billing, transcribes physician dictation into medical reports, and releases patient information according to state and federal laws. Cobb will also direct the Tumor Registry, which reports Portage County cancer data to state officials and a national cancer database.

Cobb is an active member of several professional organizations including the American, Ohio and Eastern Ohio Health Information Management Associations. Cobb was formerly president of the Eastern Ohio HIMA.

Cobb is an avid scrapbooker and enjoys spending time with her husband Robert, of 13 years, and 5-year-old daughter, Emily. They live in Cortland, Ohio.
